Brainstorming

These images show some of the ideas I had for animation in the early stages of the project. There are also sources and reference images for these ideas. Eventually, I decided to build on the eighth idea and wrote a script for my animation.

Home Sweet Home (Final version)

INT. Rabbit hole / The rabbit's home

A wooden sign with a “Home Sweet Home” script hangs right above the rabbit family's door, and small colourful flags hang on the wall, it is Little Rabbit’s birthday today.

The little Rabbit is drawing with Mama Rabbit. Meanwhile, Papa Rabbit is setting the birthday cake. The little Rabbit showed her mum the drawing, Mama Rabbit smiled and petted the little Rabbit’s head.

Meanwhile, Papa Rabbit has set the birthday cake and brought it to the dining table, Little Rabbit sat between her mum and dad with a happy smile. Mama Rabbit put a birthday hat on Little Rabbit's head. She put her hands together in front of her chest and slowly closed her eyes, ready to make a wish.

Suddenly, the sound of breaking glass shattered the peace of the rabbit family. Papa Rabbit, Mama Rabbit and Little Rabbit looked terrified as they huddled together and shivered. The sound of smashing things keeps coming, their house is shaking and all the lights are off.

INT. Little girl’s bedroom

When the lights are back, the rabbits turned into a rabbit doll in the hands of a little girl. The little girl is sitting on her bed holding the rabbit doll and wearing a worn birthday hat. From the living room came the sounds of her parents arguing and smashing things, their shadows reflected on the wall of the little girl's bedroom through the half-open door. The little girl hugs her rabbit doll tightly and sheds tears.

Family discord is a major cause of character defects and psychological problems in children, and it is also a very common problem. The rabbit family in the script is the little girl's fantasy and desire for a happy and harmonious family, and a place to hide when she experiences family discord. I hope that the contrast between the rabbit's family and the little girl's family will make people aware of the negative impacts of family discord on children.

For the first part of the animation, I wanted to present it in a 2D hand-drawn style to show that the rabbit family was just the little girl's imagination and to be more relevant to the child's perspective. When it comes to the little girl's part, I will use a more realistic rendering to separate it from the first part. It can also provide contrast and balance with the seriousness of the topic and enhances the impact on the viewer.
